Sovereign Grace Church: Woodstock, GA http://www.sgcatlanta.org/ Volunteers to Help Set-up on July 31
Sovereign Grace Church is on the move! August 1st we will begin meeting at The Kings Academy for our Sunday meetings from 9:30am to 11:00am. As we make this transition we are in need of your help to set-up for our first meeting.

The good news is that we get to set-up the night before to iron out any wrinkles so we are asking both set-up teams to meet us at The Kings Academy at 7pm on Saturday, July, 31. We would also like to invite anyone else who is available to join us as there will be a number of things to do from chair set-up, stage arrangements, to pre-paring the children’s ministry classrooms.

Thank you for trusting God through this transition and for joyfully serving one another. We are looking forward to all that God has for us as we enter this new season at a new location.

Extremely Grateful For You,
Aaron Anderson
http://www.sgcatlanta.org//blog/post/volunteers-to-help-set-up-on-july-31 Fri, 23 Jul 2010 01:30:00 EDT Dave Harvey : The Pastor's Mission
Here is the link to Dave Harvey's message on mission's.

http://www.sovereigngracestore.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=A2350-03-51
http://www.sgcatlanta.org//blog/post/dave-harvey-:-the-pastors-mission Fri, 28 May 2010 12:40:00 EDT SGC Mother's Day Video
Watch the video here:

SGC MOTHER'S DAY VIDEO
http://www.sgcatlanta.org//blog/post/sgc-mothers-day-video Tue, 11 May 2010 04:40:00 EDT Facing Grief by John Flavel
In 1674, two years after his second wife's death, John Flavel published - A Token for Mourners. In it he meditates on the words of Luke 7:13: 'And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.' From this verse the author helps the reader to think about grief, distinguishing 'moderate' sorrow from 'immoderate'. He spells out what is appropriate for a Christian mourner and what is not. This book is full of Scripture, counsel, warning, and wisdom gained from prayerful reflection on the personal experience of affliction in loss and grief.
http://www.sgcatlanta.org//blog/post/facing-grief-by-john-flavel Thu, 6 May 2010 12:00:00 EDT By Grace Alone by Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson
Are you truly amazed by God's grace? Or have you grown accustomed to it? Yes, we sing of God's "Amazing Grace," but do you truly understand what you as a Christian have experienced in receiving the grace of God? Or do you take divine grace for granted?

In By Grace Alone: How the Grace of God Amazes Me, Dr. Sinclair B. Ferguson laments that "we have lost the joy and energy that is experienced when grace seems truly ‘amazing.'" In an effort to restore the wonder of divine grace, he reflects on it from seven angles, each built around a stanza from a rich but little-known hymn, "O How the Grace of God Amazes Me," written by Emmanuel T. Sibomana, a pastor in the African nation of Burundi.

This book poses probing questions for today's believer: "If I am not amazed by God's grace, can I really be living in it? Can I really be tasting, and savoring, and delighting in it?" But those willing to delve into God's Word with Dr. Ferguson will come away with a deeper astonishment at the depths of God's grace.
http://www.sgcatlanta.org//blog/post/by-grace-alone-by-dr--sinclair-b--ferguson Thu, 6 May 2010 12:00:00 EDT Scandalous by D.A. Carson
D. A. Carson, one of today's most notable Bible scholars, introduces the irony, scandal, and greatness of the work done on the cross.

How are Christians to approach the central gospel teachings concerning the death and resurrection of Jesus? The Bible firmly establishes the historicity of these events and doesn't leave their meanings ambiguous or open to interpretation. Even so, there is an irony and surprising strangeness to the cross. Carson shows that this strange irony has deep implications for our lives as he examines the history and theology of Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection.

Scandalous is the latest addition to the Re:Lit series, which highlights important theological truths in accessible and applicable ways. Both amateur theologians and general readers will appreciate how Carson deftly preserves weighty theology while simultaneously noting the broader themes of Jesus' death and resurrection. Through exposition of five primary passages of Scripture, Carson helps us to more fully understand and appreciate the scandal of the cross.
http://www.sgcatlanta.org//blog/post/scandalous-by-d-a--carson Thu, 6 May 2010 12:00:00 EDT What is the Gospel? by Greg Gilbert
This newest addition to the IXMarks series presents a clear, straightforward statement of the gospel, the third mark of a healthy church.

What Is the Gospel? It seems like a simple question, yet it has been known to incite some heated responses, even in the church. How are we to formulate a clear, biblical understanding of the gospel? Tradition, reason, and experience all leave us ultimately disappointed. If we want answers, we must turn to the Word of God.

Greg Gilbert does so in What Is the Gospel? Beginning with Paul's systematic presentation of the gospel in Romans and moving through the sermons in Acts, Gilbert argues that the central structure of the gospel consists of four main subjects: God, man, Christ, and a response. The book carefully examines each and then explores the effects the gospel can have in individuals, churches, and the world. Both Christian and non-Christian readers will gain a clearer understanding of the gospel in this valuable resource.
http://www.sgcatlanta.org//blog/post/what-is-the-gospel-by-greg-gilbert Thu, 6 May 2010 12:00:00 EDT What Did You Expect? by Paul David Tripp
Marriage, according to Scripture, will always involve two flawed people living with each other in a fallen world. Yet, in pastor Paul Tripp's professional experience, the majority of couples enter marriage with unrealistic expectations, leaving them unprepared for the day-to-day realities of married life.

This unique book introduces a biblical and practical approach to those realities that is rooted in God's faithfulness and Scripture's teaching on sin and grace. "Spouses need to be reconciled to each other and to God on a daily basis," Tripp declares. "Since we're always sinners married to sinners, reconciliation isn't just the right response in moments of failure. It must be the lifestyle of any healthy marriage."

What Did You Expect? presents six practical commitments that give shape and momentum to such a lifestyle. These commitments, which include honestly facing sin, weakness, and failure; willingness to change; and embodying Christ's love, will equip couples to develop a thriving, grace-based marriage in all circumstances and seasons of their relationship.
http://www.sgcatlanta.org//blog/post/what-did-you-expect-by-paul-david-tripp Thu, 6 May 2010 12:00:00 EDT Broken Down House by Paul David Tripp
Picture a broken down house. We've all seen them sagging and dilapidated dwellings that look as if they are in physical pain. You wonder what the house once looked like, who lived in it, and how it got into such a miserable condition. Some of us look at this kind of house and are simply overwhelmed. We quickly move on, not for a moment considering the possibility of restoration. Others of us immediately see potential. We can't wait to get our hands on the mess and restore it to its former beauty. Sin has ravaged the beautiful house that God created. It sits in slumped and disheveled pain, groaning for the restoration that can only be accomplished by the hands of him who built it in the first place. The good news is that the divine Builder will not relent until everything about his house is made totally new again. The bad news is that you and I are living right in the middle of the restoration process. We live each day in a house that is terribly broken, where nothing works exactly as intended. But Emmanuel lives here as well, and he is at work returning his house to its former beauty.

Often it doesn't look like any real restoration is going on at all. Things seem to get messier, uglier, and less functional all the time. But that s the way it is with restoration; things generally get worse before they get better. Someday you will live forever in a fully restored house. But right now you are called to live with peace, joy, and productivity in a place that has been sadly damaged by sin. How can you live above the damage? Even better, how can you be an active part of the restoration that is at the heart of God's plan of redemption? That is what Broken Down House is all about.
http://www.sgcatlanta.org//blog/post/broken-down-house-by-paul-david-tripp Thu, 6 May 2010 12:00:00 EDT Directions to Church Picnic
NRRS Allatoona Dam Park

513 Allatoona Dam Road, SE

Cartersville, GA 30121

1. 513 Allatoona Dam Rd SE, Cartersville, GA 30121

2. Merge onto I-75 N / GA-401 N toward CHATTANOOGA

3. Take the RED TOP MTN ROAD exit- EXIT 285

4. Turn LEFT onto RED TOP MOUNTAIN RD SE

5. Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto US-41 N / GA-3 N / JOE FRANK HARRIS PKWY SE

6. Turn SHARP RIGHT onto ALLATOONA DAM RD SE / GA-294 S

7. End at 513 Allatoona Dam Rd SE and the Pavilion will be on your left
http://www.sgcatlanta.org//blog/post/directions-to-church-picnic Mon, 12 Apr 2010 12:00:00 EDT
